14. Does my Chem fallow really need that much N?

Yes. Chem fallow can result in lower levels of mineralization compared to tilled fallow, especially following a very wet fallow year. Other factors such as soil moisture, temperature and weed growth will affect mineralization and thus the residual nitrogen left after fallow.
