13. Do I really need that much K? I thought we had lots in Saskatchewan?

Chemical extraction techniques like Ammonium acetate extraction will extract a lot of K from our prairie soils. This large amount is not necessarily going to be taken up by the plant roots. Interference in the plant uptake of K can be caused by high Ca supply which competes with K for adsorption sites on the plant root.
